About the Book

Violence in its many forms—terrorism, domestic abuse, gender violence, psychological trauma, socioeconomic injustice, and systemic violence—has become a pervasive and accepted part of contemporary society. In a world surrounded by these harsh realities, we often become desensitized, substituting what was once a civilized culture with what can now be called a "culture of violence." This anthology takes a deep dive into the prevalence and representation of violence in modern society, examining its impact and manifestations across diverse human contexts.

The book highlights various forms of violence: terrorism, regional conflicts, arson, killings, rape, and the psychological and physical abuse that devastates individuals and communities. Through a combination of research-based articles, it explores how violence has become a lived reality, shaped by rapid changes in the social, economic, political, and cultural spheres. The intensity of violence, often only felt by the victim, is something words can scarcely capture, but its consequences ripple throughout society.

The volume brings together diverse perspectives—primarily through literature, but also from the viewpoints of film and television—focusing on the portrayal and perpetuation of violence in modern media. By analyzing the intersection of theory, media, and literature, the contributors explore patterns of violence and their deep connections to human experience. This book not only analyzes the symptoms of violence but also seeks to understand the cultural obsession with it, offering a critical lens on the influence of literature, cinema, and TV in shaping public perceptions of violence.
