Born: June 22, 1923, in Jessore, British India.
Early Life:
- Began schooling in a tea garden in Sylhet before moving to Nabadwip.
- Passed I.Sc. in 1945.

- Worked in multiple professions, including private tutor, mechanic, restaurant waiter, trade union organizer, insurance agent, proofreader, and journalist.
Political Struggles & Journalism:
- Imprisoned in 1975 under the MISA Act for his fight for freedom of speech and journalistic integrity.
- Released a year later, after enduring severe hardships.
Awards & Recognitions:
- Ananda Puraskar (1970)
- Ko Jae Wook Memorial Award (1976, South Korea) – for defending freedom of expression.
- Ramon Magsaysay Award (1981) – for courageous journalism.
