Book Description

The fifth volume of Upanyas Samagra brings together six remarkable novels by Bimal Kar, showcasing his literary depth and storytelling finesse. These novels explore human emotions, psychological dilemmas, family dynamics, and existential struggles, making this collection a compelling read.

Novels in this Volume:

  • Asomoy (Untimely) – One of the author's most acclaimed works, this Sahitya Akademi Award-winning novel is a literary masterpiece with its lyrical prose, sharp dialogues, and emotional depth. It has been translated into multiple Indian languages and English.
  • Prochchhanno (Hidden) – A psychological novel that delves into the complexities of human relationships. It explores how long-lost connections, even when faint, can suddenly resurface, causing emotional turmoil and unexpected pain.
  • Sannidhyo (Closeness) – The protagonist, after recovering from an illness at a rehabilitation center, returns home to realize that her old sense of belonging has faded. Despite the affection and care of her family, she struggles to reclaim her former place in the household.
  • Nim Fuler Gondho (The Scent of Neem Flowers) – A love story, yet layered with intricacies and emotional subtleties, revealing the irony that people often fail to recognize the beauty and warmth of the things closest to them.
  • Ek Obhinetar Mrityu (The Death of an Actor) – A poignant tale about the struggles behind the glamour of the acting profession. It explores the loneliness, pain, and internal conflicts of an actor’s life, which often remain hidden behind public gossip and media narratives.
  • Notun Tara (New Stars) – A family drama that does not merely depict the generation gap, but rather the clash of ideas, perspectives, and values between parents and their children. The novel leaves an open-ended question: Is there an absolute truth, or is each side holding onto fragments of reality?

Each novel in this collection is emotionally rich and thought-provoking, making it a valuable addition to Bengali literature.
