Author's Bio

Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay (শীর্ষেন্দু মুখোপাধ্যায়) was born on November 2, 1935, in Bikrampur, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He spent his childhood in various locations due to his father’s job in the railways, leading to a transient life in places like Kolkata, Bihar, North Bengal, Assam, and East Bengal. His early memories of these diverse places frequently appear in his works. He began his academic journey in Cooch Behar and later studied at Victoria College and Kolkata University.

Mukhopadhyay started his career as a school teacher and later transitioned to journalism with Anandabazar Patrika. His first story was published in Desh magazine, and his debut novel was Ghunpoka (The Woodworm). He earned widespread recognition with his children's novels like Monojder Adbhut Bari (Monoj's Strange House) and received the Vidyasagar Puraskar in 1985 for excellence in children's literature. He also won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1989 for his novel Manabjamin.

Mukhopadhyay's works often explore the human psyche, weaving intricate narratives with psychological depth and philosophical insights.
