About the Author:
Chitra Deb earned her Master's degree in Bengali language and literature from the University of Calcutta and later obtained a PhD for her research on an undiscovered version of the Mahabharata. She has edited significant medieval texts, including Kabichandra's Mahabharata, Vishnupuri Ramayana, Khetkadas Kshemananda's Mansamangal, and Mayurbhatta's Dharmamangala. Her contributions to Bengali literature and cultural history are widely recognized, with a particular focus on the role of women in the Thakur family and their influence on Bengali society. Chitra Deb also translated Premchand's novels Godan and Nirmala and authored several works on medieval Bengali society and manuscripts. She passed away on October 1, 2017.
