About the Author:
Subimal Chandra De
Subimal Chandra De was born on May 9, 1930, in Basudebberia village, Kanti Thana, East Midnapore District. He holds a degree in Plant Science and has trained in Library Science and the Senior Division of NCC (National Cadet Corps), where he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1963, later rising to Lieutenant in 1967 and Captain in 1969. He served in the 7th Bengal Battalion and retired as an NCC Officer and Librarian from Jhargram Polytechnic (1960-1992). He is the founder of the famous Rose Nursery and Horticultural Arena in Jhargram and is known for his expertise in plant breeding. Through hybridization methods, he developed several exotic varieties of roses, dahlias, and hibiscus, with his climbing dahlia being particularly notable. He has contributed extensively to horticulture journals such as Indian Horticulture and Indian Farming, and is renowned for his long-term research in economic botany, particularly in the study of useful plants.
