Author's Bio
Somaresh Majumdar (সমরেশ মজুমদার) was born on March 10, 1944, in the tea gardens of Duars. He attended Jalpaiguri District School and moved to Kolkata in 1960. He studied Bengali Honours at Scottish Church College and later completed his M.A. at the University of Calcutta. Initially involved in group theatre, Majumdar transitioned to writing, penning his first story in 1967 in Desh magazine.
His debut novel, Dour (The Race), was published in 1975, also in Desh. Majumdar has since authored numerous notable works such as Ei Ami Renu, Ujan Ganga, Bashbhumi, Kalbela, and Kalpurush. His work is recognized for its deep cultural themes, intricate narratives, and a keen insight into human nature. He was awarded the prestigious Anand Puraskar in 1982 and the Sahitya Akademi Award for Kalbela in 1984. His work has also found its way into cinema, with the film adaptation of Dour receiving critical acclaim.
