Synopsis:
Shilpi Akranta is a biographical novel based on the life of Somen Chanda, a revolutionary writer and political activist.

Born in 1920 in a middle-class family in Dhaka, Somen Chanda was deeply involved in both literature and leftist politics from a young age. He played a crucial role in:

  • Managing Pragati Library
  • Establishing the Pragati Writers' Association
  • Leading workers' movements, becoming the secretary of the railway workers' union at just 21 years old

Despite his active political life, he was an exceptional storyteller, writing remarkable short stories like:

  • Idur (Rat)
  • Danga (Riot)
  • Muhurt (Moment)
  • Satyaboti’r Biday (Satyaboti’s Farewell)
  • Andha Sribilas-er Koyekdin-er Ekdin (A Day in the Life of Blind Sribilas)

In 1942, at just 22 years old, he was brutally assassinated by a political rival on his way to an anti-fascist meeting.

This novel vividly reconstructs the short but impactful life of Somen Chanda, portraying his passion for social change, literary genius, and tragic end.
