Author's Bio

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930), born in Edinburgh, Scotland, was a doctor by profession but a writer by passion. Although he initially sought fame through historical novels, his enduring legacy rests on the creation of Sherlock Holmes, the world's most beloved detective.

Holmes first appeared in A Study in Scarlet (1887), and the character became so popular that Doyle wrote numerous sequels, including The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, and The Return of Sherlock Holmes. Doyle's works also include historical novels, ghost stories, and science fiction, but it was the Sherlock Holmes stories that earned him worldwide fame.

His works have remained influential in the mystery genre, and Sherlock Holmes continues to be a central figure in popular culture. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle passed away in 1930, but his detective stories live on, captivating new generations of readers.


Translator's Bio

This collection is translated by Subhadrakumar Sen, a Professor at the University of Calcutta, specializing in Indian Linguistics and Phonetics. With a deep interest in detective fiction, he has also written several detective stories in Bengali.
