About Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay
Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay was born on 30 March 1899 in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, into a family deeply connected to literature and culture. His early life was marked by studies in Munger and Kolkata, where he attended Vidyasagar College and later went on to pursue law at Patna University. Despite his academic inclinations, Sharadindu's heart lay in literature.
He began his literary career as a poet with his first poetry collection, "Joubanasmaran" in 1325 Bengali Year (1918). Soon after, he started writing short stories, marking his transition to prose. By 1929, he turned to writing as his full-time profession, and from 1938 onwards, he worked as a screenplay writer in Bombay (Mumbai) for various film productions. Despite his connection with cinema, he moved away from it in 1952, settling permanently in Pune.
Sharadindu's diverse interests included a deep fascination with astrology, under the pseudonym Chandrahasa. His works, spanning across fiction, drama, and screenplays, include a wide range of themes from mystery to historical fiction. His contribution to Bengali literature earned him several prestigious awards, including the Rabindra Puraskar and the Sarat Smriti Puraskar.
He passed away on 22 September 1970, leaving behind a remarkable body of work that continues to influence readers and writers alike.
