Author's Bio

Satyajit Ray, born on May 2, 1921, in North Kolkata, was one of the most prominent filmmakers and writers in India. He was the only son of Sukumar Ray and Suprava Ray. Ray's early education was at Ballygunge Government High School, followed by graduation from Presidency College in 1940. Although he started his education at Santiniketan, he left in 1942 to pursue a career in advertising.

Ray made his literary debut with the English story Abstraction (1941) and later turned his focus to Bengali literature. His first major work in literature was Professor Shanku, which marked the beginning of a series of science fiction stories that became immensely popular. He is also renowned for creating the Feluda detective series.

Throughout his career, Ray received numerous accolades for his work in both cinema and literature, including the Bharat Ratna, Legion of Honor (France), and an honorary Oscar. His contributions to literature and cinema have been groundbreaking, making him one of the most revered figures in global storytelling.

Ray passed away on April 23, 1992, leaving behind a legacy of over 60 books, covering a wide range of genres, including science fiction, detective stories, essays, and autobiographical writings.
