About the Author

Satyajit Ray (2 May 1921 – 23 April 1992) was a world-renowned Indian filmmaker, writer, and illustrator, best known for his creation of FeluDa and Professor Shanku.

  • Early Life & Education: Born in Kolkata, Satyajit was the son of Sukumar Ray, a celebrated Bengali poet and illustrator. He studied at Presidency College and later joined Santiniketan, though he left his education unfinished due to the circumstances of the time.

  • Filmmaking: Satyajit Ray is regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers in the world. His first film, Pather Panchali (1955), won him international acclaim, especially with its recognition at the Cannes Film Festival. He is known for his cinematic genius, receiving multiple prestigious awards including the Golden Lion (Venice), Life Achievement Oscar, and the Legion of Honour (France).

  • Writing Career: In addition to his filmmaking achievements, Ray was a prolific writer and illustrator.
