Synopsis:
Satideha is a deeply philosophical and poetic novel by Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay that explores love, loss, and existential crisis.

  • Runu, the protagonist, is fascinated by an unseen painter who paints the dawn each day.
  • His world is filled with odd and surreal experiences—a broken crow’s nest leading to the fiery images of dead chicks, searching for a mouse hole to hide little Richa’s fallen tooth, and accepting a breakfast invitation from the regretful Bandana Boudi.
  • He tells Murcchona a tale of a mystical land filled with dreams, mist, and magic.
  • Among the many events in Runu’s life, there remains a deeply buried past—Lamding, a bicycle, and a shy girl named Sati.
  • Runu now feels like a dead man within himself, yet a lingering question remains—why does Murcchona warn him against going to the park late at night?

With its dreamlike narrative, Satideha gradually unfolds a love as delicate and inevitable as the scent of flowers and incense.
