About the Author

Sunil Gangopadhyay (7 September 1934 – 23 October 2012) was one of the most celebrated authors in Bengali literature. Born in Faridpur, Bangladesh, he completed his MA from the University of Calcutta. Starting his career as a tutor, he explored various fields including government service, journalism, and UNESCO's literacy initiatives.

Sunil began his literary journey with poetry and became a founder-editor of the iconic Krittibas magazine. Later, he gained unparalleled fame as a novelist with works like Atmaprakash. He also wrote under pseudonyms such as Neel Lohit, Sanatan Pathak, and Neel Upadhyay.

Recipient of numerous awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award (1985), Bankim Puraskar (1983), and the Anand Puraskar, Sunil’s works transcended genres and captivated readers across all age groups. His Kakababu-Santu series remains a beloved cornerstone of Bengali children's literature.
