Synopsis:

Three central characters—Parameshwar, Pratima, and Bankim—frequently appear in Sanjib Chattopadhyay’s literary world. In Sadher Mayna, these well-known figures return, but in a completely different setting and emotional tone.

Pratima, the strong-willed and independent daughter-in-law, fiercely opposes the dominance of her authoritative father-in-law, Parameshwar. Her relationship with her husband, Bankim, is filled with humorous yet poignant moments. However, unlike their previous lighthearted interactions, this novel delves into separation, loss, and grief.

One by one, Parameshwar and Pratima pass away, leaving Bankim alone in an empty world. With an evocative and heart-wrenching narrative, the novel explores how Bankim copes with solitude. The story echoes the sentiment once expressed by Dada Thakur:
"When a jester weeps, even God weeps with him."
Written with deep emotion and poetic melancholy, Sadher Mayna is a profoundly moving novel that lingers in the reader’s heart.
