About the Book
Rural Sociology by S.L. Doshi provides an insightful exploration of the complexities of rural life in India, a nation deeply connected to its village society. Rooted in the belief of India’s great leaders—such as Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi, and Prem Chand—that the prosperity of villages is intrinsically tied to the nation's success, this book examines the profound social and economic changes occurring in rural areas due to massive developmental efforts.
In the face of rapid transformation, it becomes essential to understand the rural society thoroughly. This book brings together empirical findings and offers a conceptual understanding of rural sociology. Topics such as agrarian social structure, land reforms, rural social stratification, village cooperatives, Panchayati Raj, and the environmental crises faced by rural areas are examined. The book also delves into the influence of traditional institutions like family, kinship, marriage, and religion on rural life.
Whether you're a student, trainee, social worker, NGO professional, or policymaker, this book will provide critical insights into the development and challenges of rural India.
