Synopsis:
"Pujor Samaye" unfolds in the fictional township of Raniwara, a setting meticulously crafted by Buddhadeb Guha. While the place and character names are imaginary, the vibrancy of festivals, traditions, and human connections depicted in this novel feel strikingly real.
The story follows a group of travelers who visit this picturesque town during Durga Puja, the most cherished festival for Bengalis. The novel beautifully captures the festive spirit—laughter, camaraderie, music, feasts, rituals, hunting, and devotion at the Puja Mandap. However, at its heart, the novel is about love—one love story that finds long-awaited fulfillment and another that gradually blossoms like a delicate flower.
With his signature lyrical prose and deep emotional insight, Buddhadeb Guha creates a novel that resonates with the warmth and nostalgia of Durga Puja, making it an enchanting read for every Bengali literature lover.
About the Author:
Buddhadeb Guha, a renowned Bengali author and chartered accountant, is celebrated for his love of nature and wilderness, which is vividly reflected in his works. He started hunting at the age of ten, though he later distanced himself from it, preferring instead to explore and cherish forests. His passion for wildlife and his extensive travels—including visits to England, Europe, Canada, the USA, Hawaii, Japan, Thailand, and East Africa—have significantly influenced his storytelling.
His literary journey began with "Jangalmahal", followed by numerous acclaimed novels and short stories. His novel "Madhukari" remains one of the best-selling and most debated works in Bengali literature. For young readers, he introduced the much-loved Rijuda series, which captures thrilling jungle adventures.
Buddhadeb Guha was honored with the Ananda Puraskar in 1977. Besides literature, he had a strong musical inclination—his wife, Ritu Guha, was a renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer, and he himself was trained in Rabindra Sangeet and Tappa music. Several of his works have been adapted into TV series and films, further cementing his legacy in Bengali literature.
