Synopsis:

At the age of fourteen, Neepa ran away with her lover, dreaming of a glamorous life like a film heroine. However, reality struck hard when she found herself trapped in a medieval household where women were treated as mere objects. Before she even turned fifteen, she became a mother, fulfilling the wishes of her mother-in-law, yet her role was limited to nursing the child. One evening, she abandoned her son and returned to the security of her parents’ home, gaining her freedom but not peace.

Society was reluctant to accept a single mother. Neepa, restless and eager for love, set her sights on Ranjan, a much older man and a war veteran, despite his secret affection for her elder sister, Neeta. However, her thirst for a vibrant life remained unquenched, and against Ranjan’s wishes, she left for America in pursuit of success.

There, Neepa fought hard to establish herself, but cultural differences strained her marriage. Eventually, she fell in love with Kallol, a much younger and successful man, and married him. Once again pregnant, she was expecting Kallol’s child when a shocking revelation shattered her world—her teenage daughter, Nina, was also pregnant. The identity of Nina’s unborn child's father left Neepa devastated, forcing her to escape once more from the life she had built.

"Pretjoni" is a deeply intense and poignant narrative of unfulfilled desires and relentless struggles, painting a raw and gripping picture of human relationships and the pursuit of happiness.
