Synopsis:
"Pitridugdha" is a unique and thought-provoking novel that delves into the origins of civilization, exploring themes of love, conflict, and the birth of human society. Set in Mesopotamia, at a time when language was just being formed and rivers were the primary mode of transportation, the novel follows the story of a legendary figure who rescues a woman from a lion’s mouth and becomes a symbol of folklore.

At the core of the narrative lies an intense love story—a powerful middle-aged man abandons his long-time companion to embark on a journey with her lost daughter. In an era when the concept of marriage was yet to be established, their fugitive passion leads to a deep entanglement. This forbidden relationship ignites a brutal war between two tribes, unleashing violence, plunder, and sexual jealousy, marking the dawn of human civilization.

Through this philosophical exploration, poet and author Subodh Sarkar raises a profound question—
Was civilization born from the mother’s milk (Matridugdha) or the father’s milk (Pitridugdha)?
The novel challenges historical perspectives and remains relevant to the modern era, offering readers a literary journey through time and thought.
