Summary:
Nishad tells the story of a simple young man from the small town of Surulpur. He arrives in Kolkata with high hopes of a brighter future and earns a university degree, but his life is far from easy. His father, Shashwat Sengupta, was a politician with a reputation for honesty, leaving behind a family burdened with debt after his passing. Now, living in a struggling household with his sick mother, Nayantara, and younger sister, Sindhura, Nishad is relentlessly trying to secure a job, but every attempt at a respectable career fails. Meanwhile, his relationship with his girlfriend ends, and he is left without a place to stay in the city.
However, when he reconnects with his college senior, Aishanidi, she tries to help him. The story also intertwines with his sister Sindhura’s journey, who, in her pursuit of ideals and values, joins the deteriorating political scene. Nishad’s life is further complicated by the political and personal struggles of those around him. The novel explores the theme of trust, betrayal, and how people, through all adversity, seek light in the darkest times.
