Book Description

Natak Samagra 1 presents a collection of Bratya Basu's significant and pioneering plays, reflecting his deep engagement with Bengali theatre and society. Unlike many established authors in Bengali literature who shy away from writing for the stage, Basu stands out as a dramatist committed to addressing the complexities of human relationships, societal challenges, and philosophical inquiries through his craft.

This anthology includes works like Aranyadev, Shahar Iyar, Virus-M, Winkle-Twinkle, and the critically acclaimed Ashaleen, which is regarded as the first postmodernist Bengali play. His creations delve into themes such as:

  • Political fantasies and societal contradictions.
  • The intricate bond between nature and humanity.
  • The clash of values, revolution, and love.
  • Philosophical musings on time and civilization.

Basu’s plays are known for their imaginative symbolism, layered narratives, and realistic depictions, making them not only stage-worthy but also profound literary contributions. He challenges the conventional norms of theatre, urging the medium to expand its horizons and break traditional barriers.

The plays in this collection have been instrumental in redefining modern Bengali drama, earning both popular acclaim and critical recognition. Basu's works transcend the stage, offering a multi-dimensional exploration of life and human thought.
