The book is specifically designed to support the training of social work educators and is divided into several key chapters covering the various methodologies crucial to progressive social work education.

The chapters delve into building perspectives for progressive social work education, curriculum development, teaching-learning and evaluation strategies, progressive training programs, and the development, dissemination, and retrieval of social work knowledge. The book reflects the author's extensive journey of academic exploration, teaching, and interaction with colleagues and students at Tata Institute, as well as her experience in the wider social work community.

The aim of this work is to further enhance and maintain the quality of social work education, offering valuable insights and approaches to educators in the field.

About the Author
Murli Desai is a Professor and the Head of the Social Work Education and Practice Cell at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. She has previously led the Unit for Family Studies at the Institute and served as the Associate Editor of The Indian Journal of Social Work (IJSW). Desai’s research work has led to the editing of six books and seven special issues of IJSW, focusing on topics such as family studies, child protection, gerontology, gender awareness, and development in the context of social work.

In addition to her academic contributions, she has worked as a consultant for various government bodies including the Ministry of Welfare, University Grants Commission, National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Indian Council for Social Science Research, and UNICEF. She has also been an active participant in professional social work associations in Mumbai, India, and internationally, particularly within the International Association of Schools of Social Work.
