About the Book

  • This book presents the first Bengali translation of Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay’s original excavation report on Mohenjo-daro, one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the Indus Valley Civilization.
  • In 1922, Rakhaldas led the excavation at Mohenjo-daro, but in 1924, the discovery was officially credited to Sir John Marshall, leaving him largely unrecognized.
  • He wished to publish his findings as a book, but Marshall delayed returning the report, preventing its publication in his lifetime.
  • Although the report was later recovered, its original photographs were never returned, making it incomplete for decades.
  • This edition not only translates Rakhaldas's original report but also enriches it with historical context, annotations, newly discovered information, and rare photographs from Mohenjo-daro and other excavation reports by Marshall, Mackay, and Wheeler.
