Shirsendu Mukhopadhyay (Born: November 2, 1935, in Bikrampur, Dhaka District, Bangladesh) is one of the most influential figures in Bengali literature, particularly in the genre of children's fiction.

    • His early years were spent in various places, owing to his father’s work in the railway service. He lived in Kolkata during World War II and later moved to various regions, including Bihar, North Bengal, East Bengal, and Assam.

    • Mukhopadhyay attended missionary schools and boarding schools, including Victoria College and later graduated from Kolkata University with a Master's degree.
  • Career:

    • He began his career as a school teacher before transitioning to journalism with Anandabazar Patrika. His first short story was published in Desh magazine, and his debut novel was Ghupoka.
    • His first children's novel, Monojder Adbhut Bari, marked the beginning of his immense success in children's literature.
