Author Bio:

Leela Majumdar was born on February 26, 1908, in Kolkata, in the household of her uncle, the renowned writer Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury. Her father, Promodaranjan Roy, was a writer on forestry and worked with the Indian Survey Department. She spent her early childhood in the hills of Shillong and later moved to Kolkata in 1920. Majumdar completed her B.A. and M.A. with first-class honors in English.

She briefly worked as a teacher at various institutions, including Darjeeling, Shantiniketan, and Ashutosh College in Kolkata. However, she spent most of her life as a dedicated writer. Her first children's book was ‘Badyinather Bari’ and her first adult novel, ‘Srimati’, was also highly regarded.

Majumdar served as the joint editor of ‘Sondesh’, a well-known Bengali children's magazine. She was honored with several prestigious awards, including the Rabindra Award, Ananda Award, Leela Award, and the Indian Children's Literature Award. She passed away on April 5, 2007, leaving behind a legacy of captivating literature that continues to charm readers across generations.
