Author Bio:
Shyamsundar Ghosh was born on July 25, 1939, in Khulna. He holds a Master's degree from Calcutta University. Renowned as a cricketer, he made a record at Eden Gardens in 1964 by taking seven wickets for zero runs while playing for East Bengal. After his playing career, he became a distinguished journalist, working for prominent newspapers such as The Statesman, Dainik Statesman, and Hindustan Standard. Ghosh also provided commentary for Test matches, One Day Internationals, football, and table tennis for many years.
A former selector for Bengali cricket, Ghosh participated in seven Football World Cups, three Asian Games, four Olympics, and the Cricket World Cup through his journalism. In recognition of his lifelong contribution, he was awarded the Best Sports Journalist honor by the Asian Sports Journalists in Seoul, 1992. He was also the sole representative from Asia on the World Sports Journalists' Football Commission (1984–1996). His regular writings appeared in popular publications like Desh and Anandamela. Among his other works are books like ‘Untold Stories of Indian Football’, ‘Test Cricket and Bengalis’, and ‘World Football Superstars
