Details: Siva's supremacy over Kama was addressed by Vaisnavas through the myth of a series of handsom and heroic descendents to Kama. While the myth of Kama was ceased with Ananga in Saivism, it was continued through valiant heroes descended at intervels in Vaisnavism, Pradyumna, Aniruddha, Vajra, Udayana and Naravahanadatta are the successors and representatives of the cult of Kama in Vaisnavism. Interestingly, the unification of these rival sects is seen in the concept of the lord Sabarimala Sasta imagined as a by-product of Siva and Visnu called Hariharasuta, the son of Hari and Hara. Presumably, the martyrdom of Kama may have promoted the synthesis and unification of Saivism and Vaisnavism leading to the popularity of Hinduism. These evidences prompted me to conclude my dissertation with evidence highlighting Kama-worship as a custom prevalent in our land. But my respectful Professor denied me permission to include the pages of Kama-worship in my dissertation. His strong observation was Kama-worship is only an imaginary poetic convention. Unsatisfied of his convensions, my curiosity pushed me to the Vedas, Puranas, Itihasas, Tantra, Mantra, Yantra, Iconography and other literary types which opened up an unbelievable spiritual world where Kama is installed and worshipped. My effort is unrevealing the myth and collective memory of Kama worship is a burden of this book. I humbly place the Kama and Kama Worship before the scholars are request to accord it a niche that is deserved.
