Kantha, a Geographical Indication (GI) product of Bengal, is a symbol of women's creativity. Originating about a thousand years ago as embroidered quilts to keep babies warm, Kantha evolved into a full-fledged art form. The Kantha stitch creates beautiful lines, fields of colour, and motifs on various textiles.

Biswa Bangla has collaborated with thousands of craftswomen in Birbhum district to improve the designs and diversify products. The integration of Kantha stitch on silk and cotton textiles has not only revitalized this craft but also helped the women artisans achieve financial independence, enhancing their lives through education, better health, and improved sanitation.
