About the Author:

Samaresh Majumdar was born on March 10, 1944, and spent his childhood in the tea gardens of Duars. He attended Jalpaiguri District School before moving to Kolkata in 1960. An alumnus of Scottish Church College, he pursued a Master's degree in Bengali at Calcutta University. Initially involved in group theater, Majumdar shifted to writing stories and plays, with his first short story being published in the Desh magazine in 1967.

His first novel, Daud (The Run), was published in 1975 and marked his entry into the literary world. Over the years, he has authored numerous novels, short stories, and plays, gaining recognition for his contribution to Bengali literature. His notable works include Kaalbela, Ujan Ganga, Bador Pakhira, and Lokkhipachali.

Majumdar has received several prestigious awards, including the Ananda Puraskar in 1982 and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1984 for Kaalbela. His works, known for their psychological depth and gripping narratives, continue to be celebrated by readers and critics alike.
