Book Overview:

  • গড়বন্দীপুরের কাহিনী (Garbandipurer Kahini) tells the story of প্রফুল্ল (Prafulla), a selfless and compassionate man who runs a philanthropic organization called "বান্ধব সমিতি" (Bandhab Samiti). Prafulla is dedicated to uplifting the economically deprived people of his village, helping them become self-reliant. However, his actions and his commitment to social service make him a mysterious figure in the eyes of many villagers. They question his motives, asking why he works so selflessly and what he gains from it. Prafulla's answer is simple: "আনন্দ" (Joy).
  • But his peaceful existence is soon disrupted when he comes into conflict with বিষ্ণু হাজরা (Bishnu Hazra), the antagonist of the village, and his violent activities. The story takes a dramatic turn when two members of Prafulla's organization, গোলাপী (Golapi) and পদ্মরানি (Padmarani), are mysteriously murdered. Despite these tragic events, Prafulla's commitment to serving society does not waver. Instead, his resolve shines even brighter in the face of adversity.
  • Through the narrative, সুনীল গঙ্গোপাধ্যায় explores the complexities of societal values and the stark contrast between personal ethics and the crumbling values of society. This novel is a luminous chronicle of the battle between light and darkness, symbolizing the fight for goodness in a world teeming with corruption.
