- Satyajit Ray, an iconic filmmaker and literary figure, was born on May 2, 1921, in Kolkata. A graduate of Presidency College and a student of Kala Bhavana in Santiniketan, Ray’s career began in advertising. His journey as an author began with English short stories and evolved into writing in Bengali with the revival of Sandesh magazine in 1961.
- His first Feluda story, “Feludar Goendagiri,” published in 1965, laid the foundation for one of Bengali literature’s most beloved detective series.
- Over his lifetime, Ray received numerous accolades, including the Bharat Ratna, Legion of Honour, and an Oscar for Lifetime Achievement, making him a globally celebrated creative genius.
