About the Book
Widows in India, especially elderly widows, represent one of the most marginalized and vulnerable segments of the population. This book, based on a survey of 300 elderly widows from Jharkhand, comprehensively examines the multi-dimensional impacts of widowhood on older women in rural areas. The study delves into the socio-cultural, economic, health, and psychological effects of widowhood, offering insights into the deprivation and challenges elderly widows face, both within their families and in their communities.

The book highlights the profound difficulties these women endure, including economic hardships, social stigma, neglect, and abuse, emphasizing the complex vulnerability that comes with their age, gender, and marital status. By shedding light on these issues, the study calls attention to the urgent need for policy intervention and better support for the welfare of elderly widows in India.
