  • Spent much of his childhood and student years in the peaceful surroundings of Shantiniketan’s Amrakunj.
  • A graduate of City College.
  • A lifelong admirer of literature, arts, music, and theater.
  • Started his career in journalism with Nabashakti and Juganthor.
  • Joined Anandabazar Patrika in 1939 and later became the editor of Desh magazine for many years.
  • Actively participated in the Quit India Movement during his student years and was jailed once.
  • His edited works include Param Romoni, Ashtadashi, and Desh Patrika’s Golden Jubilee anthology of stories, poems, and essays.
  • Awarded the Narayan Gangopadhyay Smarak Puraskar by Kolkata University in 1982 for Ekti Pereker Kahini.
  • Received the Ashok Kumar Sarkar Memorial Award in 1984 and the Deshikottama award from Visva-Bharati University in 1986.
  • Passed away: February 19, 1999.
