About the Book

Education, Religion, and Creativity is the second volume in a four-volume festschrift series in honor of Professor Yogendra Singh, a leading figure in Indian sociology. The book focuses on three main themes: education, religion, and creativity, exploring their intersections in the context of modern India.

The first section delves into the state of higher education in a globalizing India, the decline of the university as a public institution, youth sexuality, and the challenges of curriculum and sex education. It also includes a case study of a school near the India-Pakistan border, symbolizing hope for peace amidst civil-military relations.

The second section examines the role of religion in the dignity and development of Dalit communities and discusses how heritage villages can merge sacredness with modern development. This section includes a discussion of Hinduism's inclusive nature and explores the Jagannath Temple’s role in promoting exclusivism, inclusivism, and pluralism.

The final section focuses on creativity, analyzing the relationship between literature and society, and time and creativity from a sociological perspective. A comprehensive sociological review of Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay's literature enriches the study of literature, while the analysis of music, television, leisure, and tourism further broadens the scope of creativity in the modern world.
