  • Samaresh Majumdar (March 10, 1944) is one of the most celebrated Bengali authors of contemporary times. His childhood in the tea gardens of Duars and his schooling at Jalpaiguri district school shaped his early years.
  • Majumdar moved to Kolkata in 1960, where he pursued his studies at Scottish Church College and later obtained a master's degree in Bengali from the University of Kolkata.
  • His literary career began in the 1960s, and he first gained recognition with his short story in Desh magazine in 1967, followed by his first novel Dour in 1975, published in the same magazine.
  • His significant works include Dour, Eyi Ami Renu, Uttoradhikar, Bandhinibas, Boro Pap He, Ujan Ganga, Lokkhi’r Panchali, Unish Besh, Sowar, Kalbela, Kalpurush, and many more.
