About the Author:
Prasad Sengupta, born in 1948, is a retired professor who served in the Physics department of Presidency College until 2008. Apart from his works on science, his literary contributions include translations like Bidesher Kabita (1983) and Bishop Heberer Kolkata (1990), as well as biographies and edited collections. The 19th-century Bengali society and its transformation remain his area of special interest.
