- Bimal Kar's childhood was spent in various places, including Jabalpur, Hazaribagh, Gomo, Dhanbad, and Asansol. He began his career in 1942 at ARP and later worked at the Munition Production Depot in Asansol. He also served in the Railways and was involved in various publications.
- In 1946, he became the associate editor of Parag, edited by Monilal Bandyopadhyay, and worked for Pashchim Banga and Satyayug magazines as sub-editor until 1952.
- Between 1954-1982, he was associated with Desh magazine and later served as the editor of Shiladitya magazine from 1982 to 1984.
