About The Book:
Che Guevara's Diary chronicles the final year of Ernesto "Che" Guevara's life, from his covert entry into Bolivia in November 1966 to his death in October 1967. Guevara entered Bolivia to support the oppressed people in their struggle for freedom. He formed a guerrilla unit consisting of Cuban revolutionaries and Bolivian locals, starting an armed campaign to overthrow Bolivia’s military government. From November 7, 1966, until his capture and death on October 9, 1967, Guevara kept a personal diary, recording daily events of his guerrilla life.
The diary entries reveal Guevara's resilience, his reflections on the ongoing revolution, and his personal challenges. Despite the heavy burden of weapons and supplies, Guevara continued to document his experiences in the difficult terrains they traversed, offering an intimate glimpse into the life of a revolutionary. The book includes rare photographs of Guevara, handwritten excerpts from his Bolivian diary, a farewell letter to his children, and a list of pseudonyms mentioned in the diary.
The introduction to the book is written by Fidel Castro, the iconic Cuban revolutionary leader. This translation into Bengali, done by Arun Ray and Kalpataru Sengupta, brings Guevara's revolutionary journey and thoughts to a broader audience, allowing readers to understand the struggles and insights of one of history's most celebrated revolutionaries.
