During 2001-05, he served as a professor of civil engineering and vice-principal at SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad. Later, he was principal at RYMEC, Bellary, till 2007. He has been Emeritus Professor at BVB College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli, from March 2008. Dr Bhavikatti has completed his ME (Structural Engineering) Degree from IIT Roorkee and holds a PhD from IIT Delhi. He has guided 69 students through their dissertations in MTech and five students through their doctorate degrees. He has been a member of many national and international committees.
