Summary:
The much-awaited return of Bhutnath, the reporter, who spent forty years in the imperial city of Delhi. However, within the city of Delhi, there lies another Delhi — the North Block-South Block, the old and new Parliament, and the many Prime Ministerial processions. Bhutnath has wandered through the corridors of power, mingling with politicians, bureaucrats, and mysterious characters. His stories from Delhi are filled with political intrigue, secretive encounters, and the undercurrents of power. From tantric astrologers influencing Prime Ministers to hearing secrets of MPs’ desires, Bhutnath lived as if he were a part of this grand spectacle, thinking himself to be someone important.
Now, many years later, with his hair turned white, Bhutnath understands that he was never the VIP he thought himself to be. He was merely an observer, an outsider, a silent spectator of the true essence of Shahi Delhi — a city full of politics, power, and mystery. This book is Bhutnath's reflection on his years in Delhi, narrating the city's various facets through his unique perspective. His vow is simple: "What I speak, I speak the truth."
About the Author:
Jayanta Ghoshal is a veteran journalist with over forty years of experience. He moved to Delhi in 1987 and has witnessed the ebb and flow of politics both in India and abroad. He served as the Delhi editor for 'Bartaman' and 'Anandabazar Patrika' for several decades. Throughout his career, he has closely observed political leaders across various levels, both in Delhi and Bengal.
Born in 1962, during the time of the Chinese invasion of India, he grew up in a narrow alley in Howrah. His schooling was at Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission. From his early life in a small alley to the bustling streets of politics, he has seen it all. Now, as he approaches the later years of his career, he is eager to break free from the confines of journalism and speak from the heart. His unique perspective draws on his experiences in both Kolkata and Delhi, making him an observer of two distinct worlds.
This book offers a candid, insightful look at the power dynamics, secrets, and human drama of Delhi through the eyes of a true insider-outsider.
