Samaresh Majumdar was born on March 10, 1944, and spent his childhood in the lush tea gardens of Dooars. His early education was at Jalpaiguri Zilla School, and later, he moved to Kolkata in 1960 to complete his B.A. in Bengali Literature from Scottish Church College, followed by a Master’s from the University of Calcutta.
