Summary:
Balmikir Ram O Ramayan explores the vast and complex world of the Ramayan, focusing on the original text by Valmiki and its many interpretations and variations. The book delves into various regional versions and adaptations of the Ramayan that have developed across India, including the Maharamayan, Adbhut Ramayan, and other local renditions.
Nrsinghprasad Bhaduri tackles questions about the authenticity and discrepancies found in popular retellings of the epic, such as how many wives King Dasharath had, the characterization of Ravana, and instances of historical inaccuracies that have become widespread in folklore. Through his engaging commentary, the author examines how the core narrative of Valmiki’s Ramayan has been altered and adapted over time. This book aims to restore the essence of the original Ramayan while shedding light on its changing forms and interpretations.
Bhaduri's insightful discussions and sarcastic remarks make this an engaging read for anyone interested in understanding the multifaceted nature of the Ramayan. It also serves as an essential read for Bengali readers, offering a detailed critical analysis of this epic.
