Ray’s education began at Ballygunge Government High School and continued at Presidency College, where he earned an honorary degree in 1940. Although he briefly attended Santiniketan, his education was interrupted, and he returned to Kolkata.

Ray’s journey in filmmaking began with the release of Pather Panchali in 1955, which earned global recognition at the Cannes Film Festival. As a writer, he introduced the Feluda detective series and the science fiction character Professor Shanku to the world. His first published literary work appeared in 1941, and his prolific contributions include detective stories, science fiction, essays, short stories, and screenplays.

Ray’s exceptional work earned him several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna, Legion of Honour (France), Golden Lion (Venice), and a Lifetime Achievement Oscar. His writing, particularly in children’s literature, remains an enduring legacy.

Ray passed away on April 23, 1992, but his works continue to inspire and captivate readers worldwide.
