About the Author: Satyajit Ray

Satyajit Ray, born on May 2, 1921, in North Kolkata, is one of the world's most celebrated filmmakers. He was the only child of Sukumar Ray and Suprabha Ray. Satyajit Ray's early education took place in Ballygunge Government High School, and later, he attended Presidency College where he earned an honorary degree in 1940. He also attended Santiniketan for a brief period before returning to Kolkata.

Ray's career as a filmmaker began in 1955 with the release of Pather Panchali, which won international recognition at the Cannes Film Festival. He also had a remarkable career as a writer, with his famous detective series Feluda and science fiction stories. Ray's first published work was in 1941, and he continued writing across various genres, including detective fiction, science fiction, novels, short stories, essays, and screenplays.

His contributions to world cinema earned him numerous awards, including the Bharat Ratna (India's highest civilian honor) and the Legion of Honour (France). He was also awarded Academy Honors for his lifetime achievement in filmmaking.

Ray's death on April 23, 1992, left a huge void in the world of cinema and literature.
