Somresh Majumdar
Born on March 10, 1944, Somresh Majumdar grew up in the tea gardens of Duars and attended Jalpaiguri District School. He moved to Kolkata in 1960 and completed his B.A. in Bengali from Scottish Church College and M.A. from Kolkata University.
His writing career began in 1967 when his first story was published in Desh magazine. He is well-known for his novels, including Dour, Ei Ami Renu, Uttaradhikar, Bandhinibas, Boro Pap He, Ujan Ganga, and Kalbela. His work has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 1984 for Kalbela and the Ananda Puraskar in 1982. His novel Dour was adapted into a film, and he has written several screenplays.
