About the Author, Leela Majumdar:
- Born: 26 February 1908, in Kolkata, at her maternal uncle Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury’s house.
- Her father, Pramodaranjan Ray, was an author and worked for the Indian Survey Department, while her husband was Dr. Sudhir Kumar Majumdar.
- Childhood: Leela spent her early years in the Shillong hills before moving to Kolkata in 1920.
- She earned her BA and MA in English, topping her classes.
- She had a short stint as a teacher at Darjeeling, Santiniketan, and Ashutosh College, Kolkata, before dedicating her life to literature.
- Leela wrote numerous works for children and adults, with her first children's book “Badyinather Bari” and her first adult novel “Srimati”.
- She worked as the joint-editor of Sondesh, a famous Bengali children’s magazine, for a long time.
- Leela Majumdar was a recipient of multiple prestigious awards, including Rabindra Award, Ananda Award, Leela Award, and Indian Children's Literature Award.
- Died: 5 April 2007.
