About the Author, Bijoya Roy:

  • Born in October 1917 in Patna.
  • Daughter of Charuchandra Das, a renowned barrister, and Madhuri Devi, sister of Basantidevi, the wife of Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das.
  • After her father’s death in 1931, she moved to Kolkata and was raised in a joint family.
  • Studied music under her aunt Sahana Devi, mastering various forms of Rabindra Sangeet, classical, and semi-classical songs.
  • Completed her education with B.A. in English Honours from Ashutosh College.
  • Worked as a teacher at Komala Girls’ School and Bethune School.
  • Acted in the film "Rabindra Nath's Shesher Rokkha" and later moved to Mumbai, where she starred in "Rajani" and "Mashal".
  • Married Satyajit Ray in 1949 after a formal wedding arranged by his mother, Suprabha Devi.
  • Worked as a volunteer at Mother Teresa's "Nirmal Hriday" for four years.
  • Was a constant companion of Satyajit Ray in his film career and international film festivals.
