In this book, Swami Tathagatananda presents a deeply reflective portrait of Albert Einstein, not just as a scientist but as a deeply human individual. The title of the book translates to "Albert Einstein and His Humanistic Nature," highlighting the man behind the great physicist, someone who possessed an understanding and profound appreciation for the beauty and mystery of life. Einstein's famous belief that "those who do not recognize the beauty of mystery are truly dead" resonates throughout the narrative, emphasizing his sense of wonder at the universe and the endless questions it presents.
Swami Tathagatananda elaborates on Einstein's concept of "sacred curiosity" and how Einstein constantly urged students to cherish this quality. In his view, the beauty of creation revealed itself through deep intelligence, and this intelligent beauty was intrinsic to both science and humanity. The book brings to light Einstein's belief that "values stem from feelings," showcasing his empathy and compassion for others. His strong stance against war and his efforts to stop it alongside Bertrand Russell is also recounted.
While the primary events of Einstein's life are discussed in the book, the real focus is on his deeply humane and compassionate nature, which guided his philosophy. He held the belief that "a life lived for others is a blessed one," and this principle guided his every action.
