About the Author
Sunil Gangopadhyay (1934–2012) was a renowned Bengali poet, novelist, and essayist. Born in Faridpur, Bangladesh, he spent most of his life in Kolkata. His educational background includes a Master’s degree from University of Kolkata. Sunil’s career began with humble beginnings as a tutor, and later he held various positions including a trainee in an insurance company, a UNESCO worker, and a government office clerk.
As a writer, he initially gained recognition as a poet, becoming the founder-editor of the literary magazine "Krittibas". He eventually transitioned into novels, with his first book, "Atmaprakash," gaining attention. His works have touched upon multiple genres and themes, and his contributions to Bengali literature have been recognized with several awards, including the Bunkim Puraskar (1983) and the Sahitya Akademi Award (1985).
Gangopadhyay was also known for his children’s literature, creating a lasting impact on both adult and younger readers. He also wrote under pseudonyms like Neel Lohit, Sanatan Pathak, and Neel Upadhyay.
