About the Book
Women's Health and Nutrition is a critical examination of the health and nutritional challenges faced by rural women in India. It addresses the stark disparities between the nutritional status of women and men, largely driven by societal and cultural factors. The book focuses on rural areas in Uttar Pradesh, offering a detailed analysis of the nutritional needs of women, particularly in terms of calorie consumption, while also considering the social factors that influence their health.
Through a thorough exploration of various aspects of rural women's lives, this book delves into the nutritional status of married women, common diseases, reproductive health, and the utilization of maternal and child health services. It also sheds light on the awareness of family planning and HIV/AIDS, highlighting the role of both state and non-governmental interventions in improving women's health. The book discusses state-level programs and schemes that aim to address the health and nutrition issues of women, examining their achievements and the challenges still faced.
The book is intended to help policymakers, NGOs, and other stakeholders understand the ground realities of women's health in rural India and create policies and initiatives that will serve both societal and governmental interests.
